Holy place Patgaon
Patgaon is a holy place in Bhudargad taluka of Kolhapur district famous for Mouni Maharaj math and samadhi, historic forts like Rangana and Manohar-Man-Satosh fort, Bhadrakali temple of Saraswat Brahmin’s, Shivling temples, deep forest, Patgaon dam, medicinal plants and on co-operative basis honey production. The peoples in this region are Konkani. Due to heavy rainfall mainly rice cultivation region.
Mouni Maharaj handles the politics of Vijapur region. At the time of Karnataka visit Chhatrapati Shivaji meets Mouni Maharaj. Due to residence of Mouni Maharaj and his Sanjeevan samadhi this place has historic importance. The math is also famous for beautiful architect wooden design. The Jyotiba hill's stone were used to build the entrance door and nagarkhana of math. The Village God's temple of Devi Bhadrakali is so old. In this temple the Hanuman statue having face to south direction. The very important historic settlement discussion between Maharani Tarabai and Satara sansthan Shahu was happen in Devi Bhadrakali temple. Lokraja Shahu, who hailed from Kagal sansthan started Chhatrajagat Guru peet and appointed Benadikar Patil as a Chhatrajagat Guru at this place for study and research of Vedas and spirituality to vigilant the history of Mouni Maharaj.
In Math of Mouni Maharaj there is place where they give anugraha to Chhatrapati Shivaji known as "Shivaji Mouni Visit Place"(shivaji Mouni Darshan). This place is at backside of samadhi of Mouni Maharaj in west side.
Devi Bhadrakali temple is from Yadav's period. Two festivals are held in temple. First in the Tripuri Pornima and other mahi.
Honey production on Co-operative basis
In Maharashtra at Mahabaleshwar and Patgaon are the places where production of honey is done on co-operative basis. Since 1959 in Patgaon honey production on co-operative basis. In this society near about 525 members from villages of western region of Bhudargad taluka. Near about 12 to 14 thousand kegs. Honey is collected. The trees of karvi, jambhul, moha, and hirda are used to cultivate the culture of honeybees.
THE TEMPLE OF KHANDOBA AT JEJURI
Khandoba, the Jejuri is a Kul-deevat (Main God temple of ancestors) of Shivaji Maharaj. From this place first Rajmata Jijau started their work of co-operative rules told by Sant Tukaram and develop the economy of Pune paragana. Aurangzeb attempted to destroy the temple many times. But he was unsuccessful to destroy it. In 1690 honeybees saved this temple from Auragzeb’s army. Honey bee’s attack on the enemies. In this book named Botanical flora of Maharashtra the Patgaon region is included in Botanic flora of Konkan. In this book list of medicinal plant found in this region is given that includes following plants.
Sitecha Ashok (Saraca indica), Bahva (Cassia fistula), Arjun sadada, Aapta, Rui, Gokarna, Aaghada, Aavla, murudshega (Helicteris isora), Aanmbehalad, hadaga, sapsan, castor, Karanj, kadanb, kanher (Nerium indicum), Khair, gulvel (Tinospora cordifolia), Jayaphal, Black pepeer -miri (Piper nigrum), vasanvel, punanrva, paripatha, bakul, dorli, ringani, vijaysar, beharda (Terminalia bellerica), maka, bibba, mangistha, nagargotha, medhashingi, adulsa (Adhatoda vasica), sanvar, shevga, lajalu, vakeri, mogali yerand,kakhina, sagargota(Caesalpinia cristata), sisav, vavding, shatavari, bhokar, jagdada, salvan, Koranti, shirish, satvin, pivala dhotra, hed, sudarshan, hirda(Terminalia chebula), sadaphuli, dronapushpi,Karanj(Pongariniapinnata),ashwagandha(Withania somnifera),Nigudi ( Vitex negunda ), etc.
King Bhoj built Bhudargad fort in 12 century. On the fort there were three temples kedarling, Bahiroba, jakhubai. This place was holy in ancient days. In 1677 Chhatrapati Shivaji at his Karnataka visit renew this fort. After that this fort was gone in Mugal authority. Gadkari fights for the fort and wins and escape the fort from Mugal. In period of Patwardhan Gadkari give this fort to them.
History of Mouni Maharaj math
After Mouni Maharaj, the math’s management handled by his worshiper Turutgiri Buva. In his period Shri Vidya Narshih Bharati and Swami Jagatguru Shankaracharya Shankeshwar math visited to Mouni Maharaj math. In 1694,Rajaram Maharaj gave gift Pandur and Vasnuli villages to collect revenue for development and management of math. In 1701 Rajshree Ramchandra Pandit Aamatya visited to Mouni Maharaj math. In his visit he noticed difficulty in collection of revenue from these villages and reported Maharani Tarabai . So she gave sanad on 25th July 1701. In this she gave gift toKodoshi Taluka Khanapur village to collect revenue from math.
The Mouni Maharaj math management handled by his worshiper by traditional rules of shish parampara. Turutgiri Buva upto year 1728,Ghanashamgiri, Sabalgiri, Someshwargiri upto year 1750,Laxmangiri upto year 1775,Bhiravgiri upto year 1836, Gangagiri upto year 1852,Bhagirathigiri upto 1864,Ramgiri upto 1920 and after that Chhatra Jagat Guru Benadikar Patil.
In 1874 Colonel Jorge Slayago Alexzander Anderson who was the political agent for Kolhapur and Karnataka gave charge of math to Ramgiri. In his period development of math was done. He put platinum and Pb roof on Mouni Maharaj Samdhi, reconstruct the old structures, conference hall and so on.
